SORROW


La Doleur.
This is the tittle of this sculpture on the tomb of a young man called Robert Didsbury who died at the age of 20 in 1910. The sculpture was made by his own mother.

THE KISS OF THE DEATH

This impressive scene is in the cemetery of Poblenou, the oldest urban cemetery in Barcelona.
The sculpture is from Jaume Barba and was sculpted in 1930.

THE HERO



This dramatic scene is on the former tomb of Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Baudin. (His remains were later transferred to the Pantheon in Paris.)
Baudin was shot dead and we can see the wound in the forehead of this realistic figure.
This sculpture is located in Montmartre cemetery.
The sculptor was Aimé Millet (1819-1891)

THE GIRL FROM BOU-SAADA




Dropping flower petals for ever, in a farewell attitude, this "Jeune Fille de Bou-Saada" which, in fact, is the title of this sculpture, is on the tomb of the orientalist painter Gustave Guillaumet in the cemetery of Montmartre in Paris.
The sculptor was Louis-Ernest Barrias (1841-1905)

MOURNING GIRL




This white marble girl is located in the cemetery of Père Lachaise in Paris.
Quite unknown statue, but one of the most beautiful in the place.
This girl is, in fact, an allegory of the architecture, since she is on the tomb of a French architect.
The sculptor was Louis-Ernest Barrias (1841-1905)

SLEEPING BEAUTY


This bronze sculpture is on the grave of Sonia Kaliensky in the Italian cemetery of St. Michele in Venice. Sonia was an aristocrat Russian girl who killed herself on 6th February 1907 in her room at the Danieli hotel, because of a love disappointment.
The sculptor was Enrico Butti (1847-1932)
